God hand for infants: Challenges against severe combined immunodeficiency
  Babies with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) have no guard against infections. They are susceptible to many infectious diseases, and usually die within one year. Immunology Group in the Department of Pediatrics (Prof.Hara) challenges against this disease. They rescued a premature infant with SCID by highly purified CD34+ cell transplantation. The cord blood transplantation was also successfully applied to other patients.
