Improvement in flexion angle by high-performance next-generation total knee arthroplasty (TKA)
Japanese people have a custom to bend their knees to full flexion, however, it is difficult to achieve full flexion after the conventional TKA. Associate Prof. Miura H. and his colleagues found asymmetric geometry of patello-femoral joint at deep knee flexion using MRI. They have developed a new design of TKA with this asymmetry to facilitate deep knee flexion. This new TKA would be helpful to Asian people who need to bend their knees to full flexion in religious ceremony.
