Heart Rehabilitation

In our hospital, 2 psychotherapists, 2-3 nurses, 2 physicians, laboratory technician and dietitian form a multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive rehabilitation. Especially, heart rehabilitation, which aims at early ambulation/treatment for patients after surgery and patients with severe heart failure, is started at the bedside of the ward, and gradually proceeding to group rehabilitation. Ward staff and rehabilitation staff hold conference every day, and organize appropriate heart rehabilitation program for each individual.

From May 2007, we have obtained facility accreditation (I), and are conducting even more substantial rehabilitation programs. Our activities are not limited to muscle strengthening and walking training, which are often associated with conventional rehabilitation, but also other activities following evidence-based appropriate exercise prescriptions, aiming to prevent recurrence of myocardial infarction, improve angina symptoms, improve heart failure symptoms, as well as improve QOL. We also review the exercise prescriptions according to the conditions of the patients who are monitored regularly by muscle strength measurement and exercise tolerance testing.

Through our activities for over one year, seeing participants gradually gaining confidence and returning to their daily life makes us realize the importance of heart rehabilitation. All persons who have heart disease are welcome to participate in rehabilitation. During weekdays, a program of around one hour is being held everyday from 15:30. For those who cannot participate regularly in the program, guidance for exercise prescription only is also possible.
