I was appointed the ninth professor in the Department of Surgery and Science, Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University on April 1st, 2022. Our department is one of the oldest surgical departments in our country, established in 1903. The motto of our department is “Personality is first, Science comes second”. Our department deals with a wide range of fields, including gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, liver transplant surgery, vascular surgery, breast surgery, and thoracic surgery. Our department has published numerous scientific papers representing the eras in these fields. These progresses made in surgery, such as organ transplants and endoscopic/robotic surgery, has been remarkable. We are eager to keep on performing surgery using state-of-the-art technology and on developing new treatment strategies. Furthermore, I am willing to educate young surgeons on ethics and professionalism. Surgery is expressed with three Ds, dynamic, dramatic, and dreamy. I am looking forward to working with young surgeons pursuing their dreams.
