Endoscopic Surgery at Department of Surgery and Oncology
Graduate School of Medical Sciences Kyushu University.

Fukuoka, Japan

Endoscopic surgery is quite different from conventional surgery in that it is performed only with 1-cm small wounds and that it does not make any big incisions. It started with laparoscopic cholecystectomy in late 1980s and has gained worldwide acceptance in clinical practice in 1990s. I t has become increasingly popular not only among abdominal surgery but also among thoracic and soft tissue surgery. It is now applied to many fields such as colon, spleen, stomach, esophagus, lung, adrenal gland, overy, and so on all over the world.
Off course, enodsopic surgery is cosmetically better than open surgery. But more importantly, it is superior to conventional counterpart in terms of faster recovery after surgery.
We here introduce our recent indications and surgical procedures of endoscopic surgery in our department.

Our endosopic team consists of the following subgroups:

Chest (lung, mediastinum)
Upper Gastrointestinal tract
(esophagus, stomach, duodenum)
Liver-Biliary tract-Pancreas
Thyroid
Lower Gastrointestinal tract
Transplantation
