I am Tetsuro Ago, and I am deeply honored to have been appointed as Professor in the Department of Medicine and Clinical Science (Second Department of Internal Medicine) at Kyushu University, effective April 1, 2025.

After graduating from Kyushu University School of Medicine in 1993, I joined the Second Department of Internal Medicine, where I have focused on both clinical practice and research in lifestyle diseases and cerebrovascular disorders. In my graduate studies, I explored the mechanisms underlying reactive oxygen species generation, and during my time in the United States, I investigated redox control mechanisms in cardiovascular diseases. Since returning to Japan, I have focused my research on brain microcirculation and the neurovascular unit, which plays a key role in the blood-brain barrier. My ultimate goal is to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for functional recovery after stroke.

With a legacy spanning over 120 years, the Second Department of Internal Medicine specializes in lifestyle diseases and related conditions, including cerebrovascular, cardiovascular, renal, and gastrointestinal disorders. It has been instrumental in advancing regional healthcare. As I carry this tradition forward, I am committed to advancing research, education, and clinical practice, while also nurturing the next generation of leaders in the field.

I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to make meaningful contributions to medical science, and I deeply appreciate your continued support.
