Surgical robotic system is expected to support the safe and precise operation for promoting an advanced medicine. A capsule robot is now being developed by Prof. Makoto Hashizume, Kyushu University Hospital, Japan. The robot which consists of micro-forceps and CCD camera is only 2cm in length and 1cm in diameter. A surgeon can operate the robot under remote control to remove a tumor in the stomach, small and large intestines. He can also move into the abdominal cavity via the stomach by using the capsule robot.
